Products should be clinically tested

Know the active ingredients

Most often, gum discomfort occurs as a result of the active ingredients in the teeth whitening products coming in direct contact with the soft tissue, therefore gums should be avoided. Teeth Whitening Pen
One of the most popular teeth whitening products is the teeth whitening pens. A teeth whitening pen is simply a tool that's used to apply teeth whitening gel to the enamel of the teeth. These pens are very convenient and easy to use. It contributes to stabilizing whitening results and provides quick touch-ups for special events.

Teeth Whitening Strips
Teeth whitening strips are also very popular for home use. These strips can be purchased at drug stores, grocery stores and from many retailers. Teeth whitening strips are often placed on the teeth for a duration of between 5 minutes to one hour, depending on the type. Of course, most teeth whitening strips should not be worn while eating nor drinking. Be cautious of the “one size fits all” as this can result in uneven whitening or blanching of the gums. Some brands are also known for causing extreme tooth sensitivity.

If you're trying to whiten your teeth at home, then one of the very first products to consider should be a teeth whitening toothpaste. Is it safe?

Extensive research and clinical studies indicate that if teeth and gums are normal and healthy there are no adverse effects to cosmetic whitening of teeth under the supervision of a dental professional. In fact, many dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available.
The ingredients in the whitener I use are 100% pure with no fillers or additives. Only the finest ingredients are used (kosher USP glycerine, no animal by-products). Teeth whitening will not change or damage the structure of the teeth - it simply makes them whiter and brighter.

Who can whiten their teeth?

Almost anyone! However, treatment may not be as effective for some as it is for others. Allison Graham RDH, can determine if you are a suitable candidate with a Pre-Whitening Assessment, including a shade assessment. Teeth whitening treatment in general will not change or damage the structure of the teeth - it simply makes them whiter and brighter. Teeth whitening products are not recommended for children under 16 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.

Are there any side effects?

Rarely! Sensitivity during treatment may occur with some patients. On rare occasions, minor tingling sensations are experienced immediately after the procedure, but they always dissipate.
The whitener I use does not dehydrate the teeth and works with the oral fluids, thus minimizing sensitivity. Generally, little or no sensitivity is reported and existing sensitivity has not been noted to increase.Blanching may be seen on the gums if the product touches, or is in close contact with the gums. A treatment with Vitamin E oil will be used and it will help to minimize the discomfort.

How long does it last?

Long! By following some simple post-whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend flossing, brushing twice daily, and occasional in-office refresher sessions.
